The opposite of resolute is me.

I hate this part of the year.

I don't set goals.
I don't make resolutions.

I don't like looking back at the past year. It's never good.

I'm not going to kid myself and pretend that all of the sudden I'm going to be organized and motivated because a new year is about to begin.

All I can say is that I hope I get back into my writing.

I hope it begins to appeal to me again.

I hope that the reading that I've been doing recently helps to spark something in me.

I hope that spark will turn into a passionate revival of amazing writing that causes the letters on my keyboard to fade with use.

I hope the revival brings quiet satisfaction and yet a burning desire to share my words with the world.

Enough so that I take the next steps to edit and polish and then send out a beautifully finished product that will be accepted and applauded and most importantly ... published.

Hope is not a resolution or a goal. Just a wish.

Happy New Year.
Be safe.
Don't drink and drive.

The aftermath...

I rush around for days and days
A million things on my list
What to buy, what to bake
Decorating bit by bit

The moment comes that I've been waiting for
A surprised face when the paper rips
Everything seems worth it then
All the planning, the work, the trips

Then comes the real hard part
The day after all of it
I wonder where to start cleaning
Where do I put all this shit?

The fridge is full of leftovers
Every surface is covered with presents
The garbage is overflowing
With paper and boxes and remnants

The noise in here is deafening
What was I thinking getting that toy?
The cats eating the tree again
Where's the laughter? Where's the joy?

The moral of this story?
Now thats a damn good question
Next year we should just skip it
But that's just my suggestion
----

Hope you had a great holiday. We absolutely did. Seeing my sons face on Christmas morning is just wonderful. Being with my family is truly amazing. I had Christmas at home, Christmas with my in-laws and Christmas with parents all in one day. I have one more Christmas to go on New Year's Day. We are very lucky.

Getting ready to watch some great bowl games! FSU plays on Thursday and RU plays on Friday! I know what bowl game Tara will be watching on the 2nd! Anyone else?

Short & Sweet: Merry & Happy

I don't care what you celebrate, how you celebrate, when you celebrate or why you celebrate.

If you are celebrating a holiday, or more than one, in the next two weeks I hope you have a great time.

Be safe.

Think of others.

Take pictures.

Have a drink.

Breathe.

No fighting!

Eat something fun without guilt.

Smile.

Let me know how it all goes.

Happy Holidays.
Heather

Fat Bottom Tree

I really think our tree this year looks like a giant Hershey Kiss.

Although it was suggested we decorate the tree in a silvery fashion this year I did choose to go traditional.

There is only about half the ornaments that we usually have, thank you Hurricane Irene, but I tried to space them out nicely.

We already have a few new replacements but I don't have a tree topper yet.

We used to have a country-ish looking angel. I will just have to wait to find just the right topper to replace her.

While visiting another blog today, Older Mommy Still Yummy, I learned about the Nativity Tray. It's such a nice touch to all the other Christmas traditions.

I'm not a religious person but its basically remembering young children and fuzzy creatures during this giving season.

I left Monica, the author of this blog, a note and she wrote back letting me know that she has started a LINKY for bloggers to show off their decorated trees to each other.

No rules. It's just for fun.

Anyone else not even started their shopping yet or is that just me?

Abby something. Abby Normal!

This month is going to be just a waste for writing.

I can tell already.

I can't even begin to formulate plot. I had trouble remembering my character's names the other day or which story I was working on last.

I'd like to think that after the holidays my life will go back to normal but I'm not sure what normal is for me any longer.

Part of my brain tells me that I need to treat writing like a job. That way I would take it more seriously and give it the time its going to take to finish.

Another part of my brain tells me that if I was going to work another job it should be for actual money.

There is another part of my brain that just feels guilty all the time no matter what I do.

I suppose making decisions on only a few parts of brain is not a good idea anyway.

Hopefully in January the rest of my brain, the part that writes, might show up!

Meanwhile, still helping out family and getting ready to decorate the house for Christmas.

We did get our tree but we may have a slight dilemma.

When the tree was with its brothers and sisters it looked fantastic and perfect in every way.

We brought him home, placed him in the stand on the porch and took off the netting to let the branches fall only to discover that he is as wide as he is tall!

HOLY GIANT TREE!

It literally looks like a giant chocolate kiss made out of Douglas Fir.

My house may not be big enough to hold him and the junk in his trunk!

I will have to remove ... not move ... but remove furniture to accommodate his girth!

We actually did lose many ornaments and the lights in our basement flood from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene.

But, thanks to Santa's helper, we do have new lights to put on the 'Fat Bottom' tree and we will be making new ornament memories starting this year.

Anyone else asking Santa for brain parts this year?

W.W.W. - The Insecure Writer's Support Group!

Bet you thought you might never hear from me again!

Well, you were both wrong!

I am back and just in time for Alex J. Cavanaugh's The Insecure Writer's Support Group posting day!

Today we are going to talk about - W.W.W.

We've all had it.
We fear it.
We can't wait to be rid of it.

What is it you ask?

W.W.W. = Writers Without Words

It's that pesky time in a writer's life when all of a sudden the well has run dry. You've reached the end of your rope. Your happy meal is short a few nuggets.

You feel dumber than a fruitcake!

It sucks.

And it happens to all of us and usually at some inconvenient time like ... in the middle of your book.

BUT!!!

Don't give up. Those words will resurface.

Maybe not as quickly as you would hope. Maybe when you least expect them, like when you don't have any paper.

But mark my words! The words will return.

Meanwhile do something productive. Something to stimulate your brain. Clear off that DVR. Read a book. Clean out that kitchen drawer that won't close. Brush the cat.

Whatever you choose just make sure you aren't too far from a pen or a keyboard.

Do any of you suffer from W.W.W.?
It's okay. This is a safe place to share.
